After Porsche’s overall win in the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans, they wouldn’t return to endurance racing until 2005 with the RS Spyder — in the lower LMP2 class. Despite being designed for a class below the fastest LMP1 prototype class, the RS Spyder wouldn’t go quietly, challenging the top cars and easily winning its class in European and American endurance races. The RS Spyder was built with a carbon fiber and kevlar chassis that featured a Porsche-designed 3.4-liter V8 as a stressed chassis member. The motor was capable of 478 horsepower and 10,000 RPM, all in a package that weighed just over 1,600 pounds. While not street legal, this an opportunity to own a piece of Porsche’s incredible endurance racing legacy.
